In the beginning, God created man. God loves man and wants man to spend eternity with Him.
However, because of sin, man is separated from God. Sin is anything that falls short of the perfect standard of God. Everyone has sinned in their lives and because sin and holiness are immiscible like water and oil, a sinful man cannot come before a holy God (Romans 3:23).
This is what the Bible means when it says that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). The consequences of sin results in not just a physical death, but a spiritual death. Separated from God, man is unable to have eternal life with Him.
So man tries hard to close the gap between him and God. Morality. Religiosity. Charity. But all these are not enough.
The Good News is that God loves man. Because of His love, God paid the price for our sins through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ. And when Jesus rose from the dead, he defeated death and proved beyond doubt that he can truly promise eternal life.
Now all we need to do is to invite Jesus into our lives to start a personal relationship with Him.
HOW DO I INVITE JESUS INTO MY LIFE?
To receive Jesus into your life, all you need to say are three things: Sorry, thank you and please.
Dear Jesus,
I’m sorry for the things I’ve done in my life that have sinned against You.
Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins.
Please come into my life to be my Lord and Saviour and help me to become the person You created me to be.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
When we say the above prayer with our mouth and mean it with our heart, we receive forgiveness for our sins and we become part of God’s family (Romans 10:9-10, John 1:12).
