Who is Jesus?

A prophet. A charismatic leader. A rebel. These are just some of the labels people identify Jesus Christ as. But who exactly is Jesus?

Historians, regardless of faith, agree that Jesus really did exist, a man who walked the Earth like you and I. He was born about 2,000 years ago – Christians believe Jesus is the Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

On earth, he taught people about doing right. He also performed many miracles like turning water into wine, calming storms and healing the sick. He even brought the dead back to life!

But Jesus’s main purpose on earth was to lay down his life to pray the price for humanity’s sins. Eventually, he was betrayed by his own people, accused even though he was innocent, and died an excruciatingly painful death on the cross.

The story doesn’t end there, though. On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead. There were more than 500 witnesses who met him after this resurrection! He then physically ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father now.

Everything described above didn’t just happen by chance. The Bible records that all of this happened to fulfil hundreds of prophecies – predictions of the future – some of which were uttered centuries before they actually came to pass with his birth, life, death and resurrection.

There are prophecies about Jesus that are yet to happen! One day in the future, the Bible tells us that Jesus will come again to establish his kingdom. At that point, he comes not as a saviour but as a judge. Those who have believed in him will be saved and be with him in heaven for eternity.
