What is Prayer?

Prayer, in essence, simply means talking with God.

Like in any relationship, communication is important. God loves you and He longs to connect with, hear, and talk to you. Like a 24/7 Wi-Fi connection, God is always ready to listen.

Prayer can happen anytime. We can pray while commuting, we can pray while talking to a friend, we can also pray when we are eating. And the more we converse with God, the more our relationship with Him grows.

Prayer isn’t just a monologue. It shouldn’t just be us talking to God. God desires to talk to us too. So when we pray, set aside time to listen to Him too!

HOW DO I PRAY?

Just like how there’s no fixed formula to start a conversation with a friend, there is also no fixed method on how to pray. But to get you started, here is a guideline on how to P.R.A.Y.

P: Praise

Meditating on the goodness of God is a great way to start. Is there anything you’d like to give thanks to Him for? Begin by telling God how you’ve seen how good He is.

R: Repent

Praying can also be a time of repentance. Is there anything you’ve done against God’s will? Pray for God’s forgiveness and ask for Him to help you to change.

A: Ask

God is a generous Father who gives good gifts to His children. Is there anything you’d like? Try asking God to provide for your needs or help you overcome your obstacles.

Y: Yield

To yield means to trust God in His providence and His timing. Take this time to submit our wants and desires to God, trusting that He knows what’s best for us.
